How is my result calculated?

Add 10 seconds per distinct incorrect code and 20 seconds per hinted round to your actual solving time across six rounds. Repeating the same wrong code within a round does not count again. Your record combines speed and accuracy.

Frequently asked questions

What do exact and misplaced mean?

Exact counts digits in their correct positions. Misplaced counts digits that belong in the code but occupy a different position, excluding exact matches. With repeats, a digit counts only as many times as it occurs in the code. For code 1123 and clue 1211, there is 1 exact and 2 misplaced. The extra 1 exceeds the code’s count and is not counted.

How do modes and rounds differ?

Three Digits uses three distinct digits from 1–6. Four Digits uses four distinct digits from 1–7. Repeat Digits uses four digits from 1–6 with repetition allowed. Early rounds start with direct exclusions; later rounds connect several clues and position relationships. Each mode and stage has a varied puzzle pool, avoiding recent puzzles where possible. There is no daily limit, and every puzzle is validated to have exactly one answer.

Does submitting reveal new clues?

Incorrect submissions do not reveal new digit or position feedback from the hidden answer. They only identify a mismatch with an already visible clue. The initial clues are sufficient. Incomplete inputs or inputs that break the mode’s digit or repetition rules do not add an error penalty.

Does time run while I take a break?

The clues and timer appear together when you start a round. Pausing or leaving the window stops time and covers the clues and input. Resume to continue from the same state. Time does not run between rounds.

How do hints and round restarts work?

A hint gives one position and its reasoning from the visible clues once per round, adding 20 seconds. It does not reveal the whole answer. Restart this round replaces only the current puzzle at the same stage and resets its time, errors, hint and input after confirmation. Completed and future rounds stay unchanged.

What about same-set replays and personal bests?

Mode-specific personal bests compare adjusted times for fresh sets. Same-set and invited replays keep the original mode and are practice, excluded from bests. Choose a result-screen mode and Play again for six fresh puzzles. Bests are preserved separately from the latest 200 games, in this browser without a server or account.

How are titles chosen?

Shorter adjusted times earn higher titles. Master Decoder also requires completing within the mode’s time threshold with no errors or hints. Each mode uses its own thresholds below to account for code length and repeated digits.
